Kids and Killers

Greetings! I think the warm weather is starting to get to my head….. but in a good way! Iquitos is an exciting city with lots of noise and hustlers. Yes hustlers….. they are about 7 years old and always put a smile on your face and warm your heart…. and they know this. These little kids survive off selling items such as bracelets and t-shirts on the streets. Tourists are their main target, and they definitely known how to make the soles(Peruvian money) flow out of your pocket. If all else fails, they enjoy pieces of gum as well.

I have really began to put my life in order and gain a new persprective of the world. The idea of living merely to benefit myself has gone out the window, and I am realizing that God has put us on this earth to worship and to love as Jesus would love. This means pouring out your soul for those who have no hope, no parents, and no spirit. Our team has been bringing light into dark places and proclaim the freedom of God´s kingdom where it needs to be the most.

For the past couple days we have been working in the prison. We have gone into the prison sharing good news and worshiping with all our heart. Somehow I feel somewhat at home singing to Jesus amongst killers and robbers. However, this would not give these men justice if this was all you knew of them. Many people we have been talking to have been around the age of 20 which is about my age. These people have great character and are enjoyable to be around. They are interested about America, and most importantly Jesus. They are normal people who have messed up. They want to change, and we have all fallen short, of course murder is prohibited in the ten commandments, but so is taking the Lord´s name in vain. Which is the worse offense? I don´t think that is for us to judge. These prisoners are God´s people and they deserve to know Jesus just as much as anyone else.  I´m excited to start our journey up river, and I hope for the grace of God to be with you all.
