Dreding the Inevitable & Freedom

The first thing I have to say is God is in control. But, I do not always know what He is going to do or has in mind for me to do. A lot of times, though, He lets me get a glemps of where he is taking me, and sometimes I do not like the way it looks. This is where trust comes into play. I personally know that His plan for me is better than anything I could ever do on my own, and whether or not I like the way it looks at the time I have a choice to do one of two things, I can either prolong the inevitable or just bite the bullet and go with it. In other words I can either trust in Him...

Freed to Be Free

Things that I have learned in the jungle: – toilet paper belongs in the trash can, not the toilet – jungle treks at night are super scary – Peruvian women are incredible – sloths are the funniest things I have ever seen – Gringos are fun to stare at ….. every second of everyday – home is where you sleep at night – 70 degrees is cold – sleeping with 200 other Peruvians is something everyone should experience.. – eating food made with river water does not turn out pretty – showers are very rare … bucket...

Trip Review

Well we are back in Iquitos and it feels like a week or two, not two months, since we were here. The last two months have been nothing like I expected and my world has definitely been rocked!  My perspective  and views on many things have been stretched and challenged. In this blog, though, I am only going to talk about our trip and in a later blog I will review my personal and spiritual experiences. Over the course of the last two months our team traveled to 9 or 10 different villages along the Amazon and Ucayali (spelling?) river. In each village we partnered with some...

Who are YOU?

Well…how would you answer? For the first 21 years of my life this conversation would look similar to this… So tell me, who are you? My name is Jared Townsend. No no, you misunderstood me. Thats your name. Who are you? Umm…I´m a college student at UCF. Thats what you do though, I want to know who you are! Well I´m a guitarist and athlete! You´re not getting it…thats what you do, not who you are.  I could keep going but I think you get the idea. Our identity is not found in how many years we´ve been around or who we´re...

Words?

the past two months have for sure been the time of my life. if seen things i´ll probably never see again, done things that can only be done in the jungle, and experienced God in a mind blowing way. I could probably come close to describing what i´ve seen physically around me in Peru with words and pictures, but i don´t think i can even come close to describing what i´ve experienced spiritually. It cannot be put into words. I guess the best way I can show you spirtually what i´ve experienced is by releasing this new life living...

just mowin´ the lawn…

This was me and the teams experience the last few days in Nauta, esp. some of the guys who did most of the work. We ´mowed´the grass of the camp grounds that we were staying at, and mowing the grass means taking a machete and completly ridding the ground of any dirt. It was a difficult task and took three days worth of mornings maybe four, to clear the whole area. Cesar had never even heard of a lawn mower.    Lawn mowers are a luxury. And so is almost everything else we have in America. Life is good here, I love it! Nauta was my favorite next to Florida, yes,...
