Catchy title?
To explain: growing up we used to go to my great-grandma´s house for the holidays. She had a ton of cows so whenever I smell cow pies I think of all the good times at my great-grandma´s house.
Now to explain the relevance to Peru:
This last Friday and Saturday we took a bunch of the youth from the area to a place called Aurora (I´m not sure if I spelled that right). And there were a lot of cows. So there´s where my title comes from.
That has nothing to do with this blog though. One major thing that God taught me here in Peru is who I am. My mom loved pointing out that as Christians we are all God´s children. Sure, I knew that, but I didn´t really understand it.
While reading through a book called The Birthright God finally got it through to me. I had been thinking about my earthly father. Long story short I was adopted by my step-dad at a very young age. I didn´t even know my biological father.
My mom and step-dad got divorced when I was around 7 or 8 years old. I had some resentment towards him for a long time for various reasons. I thought that he didn´t really love me. After that we didn´t see him again for a long time.
At the beginning of my junior year of high school we had found him again. He was in a VA hospital. The first thing he said to me when he saw me was "what happened to your red hair?"
That may seem like something small to most of you, but it meant everything to me. For someone to remember a small detail like that for almost 10 years without seeing you means that they really must care about you.
My daddy loved me!
Now what does that have to do with what God taught me? As I was reading and thinking about my dad and his love for me God told me "if this man loved you that much, how much more can I love you?"
WHAT?!?!?!?!?! Wow. That blew me away. I finally got it. God is my daddy. He loves me more than anything. I don´t have to do anything for His love! All He wants is for me to love Him and spend time with Him! Isn´t that just AWESOME?!?
