So here is my first blog post and it will probably be pretty scattered since I have so much on my mind. First of all, I LOVE it here. The flight over the Andes was so incredibly beautiful and I have decided that I want to go there on my honeymoon. The people live simple lives and are very warm and welcoming. We are spending the first few days in Iquitos, which has about a million people in it and on Monday we will leave for Nauta and the Amazon jungle! Stray dogs roam the streets, piles of trash and sewage pile up on street corners, and kids kick soccer balls around in the streets. It is extremely hot and humid and I have been in a constant sweat bath since I arrived here. Right now it is storming and this storm is one like I have never been in. The rain is unbelievably loud and there is so much water coming down that is is hard to describe.
Today we went to a prison and were able to give testimonies and pray for the men that were there. When we asked if anyone would like to pray with us and accept Jesus into their hearts, about 40 out of around 55 men came up to be prayed for. It was incredible. Tomorrow we will be going back to the prison and hopefuly playing some soccer with the men. Afer the prison, we went to a school where we were able to share the gospel and talk to the kids afterwards. I really wish I knew spanish, for when I try to communicate with them, all they do is laugh at me and make jokes about me. But at least I am able to provide some comic relief. But seriously, it is so wonderful to see how God works in the lives of these people and I have only been here for two days! God has been doing some incredible things in my heart and life and I know I will not return from this trip the same person.
Tomorrow and Saturday we will be doing the same as today, going to the prison in the morning and to some school or church in the afternoon. Then on Sunday we will be attending two church services and hopefully a soccer game. On Monday we will embark on a day and a half jorney by boat to Nauta where we will be spending a few days.
Alright well I am leaving out so much that is on my mind and that has happened but the Amazon rain is calling my name. Adios Amigos!
