My Heart Song

Everything in creation has a song, a heartbeat, a rythymn in which everything is designed to work like clockwork according to the design of the master. This song sounds different in every creature and creation in which it resides, but it is all part of the same Heartbeat, the song of the King. Every one on earth has their own song that God put within their soul when He created them. Sometimes it takes us a lifetime to learn how to release this song.
We try to release it by singing the songs of others, but this just leaves us unsatisfied. Theres a soft whisper within each of our hearts that theres something more out there, that theres more to be released. Because our songs are like a river held in by a dam. And when we become aware of our song, it creates a tension within us and groans to be released.

God is a dreamer, and He created us to be dreamers too. He had a dream before he spoke the world into being, and now were all living into that dream. Pretty cool huh? So this song is within us, crying out for its creator, and when we learn how to release it, when we finally realize we dont have to live in our cages, we can release our song.

For me, this moment started in training camp, and has been building and building in intensity all trip long. If you know me at all, you know I love to worship. It is my heart cry to worship with a guitar, and when I truly sing from my heart, its not even words that comes out its just sounds. And thats the beauty of it, is that it doesnt matter if your song fits into some kind of mold that pleases other people. Your song was made for one purpose: intimacy with God.

When we were in Bretaña, which was our first village, the last night we were there God gave me a vision, a dream. In it I saw myself leading worship, and just worshipping for an entire meeting. I heard the Lord tell me that it was time to think outside the normal Peruvian box of how they do church. (Im not hating on the Peruvians, just saying that its outside of their ¨normal¨)

So I hashed out this dream with Benny when we got to Requena, our next town. The really neat thing, is that we already had a space set aside for teaching the pastors in the morning, and Benny told me that would be an opportune moment to worship with them. And so I spent the first hour talking about how everything that God reveals to us is a building block for something else that He wants to teach us. That no single revelation is an end in itself. And I built up through talking about humility, to intimacy, and finally to living our lives out of a place of the presence of God, and not by His principles. We live in His presence best by learning how to release our song.

It looks different for every person and every thing. But what it ultimately boils down to is this. God put a sound within each and every one of us that brings Him praise. Notice that no two peoples voices sound exactly the same. Thats an echo of the sound, the praise that God put within that He wants us to pour out on Him in full abandonment. True freedom comes from releasing what God has put within you, and the knowledge of how to do that has to start with love. We have to love the crap out of God in order to truly release our song to Him.

That day in Requena, after the preaching was over, we worshiped for about an hour, just pouring our hearts out and singing new songs to God, and releasing the song that God has put within us (the team members) and inviting people to come with us. Thats the job of a worshiper, to open up the way and invite people to come with us. And the coolest thing, is that God released a grace on the people there to be able to release their own song. They understood what the Spirit was speaking to them, (as I pray He is speaking to you also through this blog post) and really began to engage with us.

When it was over, one of the pastors came up and told us that while we worshipped God had given Him a song, and He had written it down, and so he sang it in front of the congregation.

Moments like these are truly a blessing to my heart, getting to see God teach people through our witness and our freedom how to be free in worship, and how to release their song.

God has been continuing to reveal this truth to me throughout the trip, and here in Nauta a few days ago, I was laying in my hammock praying, and several chickens began to cackle. I was annoyed at first because it was destroying the serenity of the moment. But God gently reminded me in that moment that everything in nature has a song, and that the chickens were releasing the sound that He gave to them, and by their simple action were giving as much praise to God as He had created them to.

Isnt that good? its still blowing my mind.
