While we can still drink the water

Greetings from Taccoa Falls!

We have nearly completed training camp here at Taccoa Falls College in the-middle-of-no-where Georgia, and I am still alive! After the process of packing and saying goodbye to my friends and family (which I wasn’t sure I would survive), I will say that I definitely didn’t know what to expect regarding any part of this trip—but mostly training camp. I had heard some crazy stories and was trying to remain open-minded and willing to experience whatever it was that the Lord wanted me to encounter at training camp.

Before I left, I was constantly asking for prayer about this trip. I was feeling increasingly nervous and unprepared with each day that passed leading up to my departure. The word that most frequently haunted my thoughts was “inadequate.” I just felt completely inadequate for such a journey. I hadn’t been diving into the Word any more than usual or feeling super prepared to share the Gospel with every person I met. I felt like I may not survive being away from home for 2 months and voluntarily removing myself from my home and community that I am used to. Once I arrived here, I was surprised to find that that word had been lingering in the minds of many others Passport-ers. I feel like the focus of training camp isn’t necessarily to prepare each person with all the knowledge they would need to know to defend the Gospel, but just to help each person realize how much the Lord LOVES to use the ordinary, the weak, and the “inadequate.” The truth is that we ARE all of those things, but only apart from the Lord. Once we are God’s children, we have attained access to His strength and wisdom and He loves to show His power through the “least of these.” If anyone should have reason to feel inadequate it is me, but the Lord has been good to clearly speak to me His strong desire to use me as a vessel in Peru to bring truth and hope to the people there.

With that said, I am extremely excited to head out to Iquitos (tomorrow, whoa!). My team is some really cool cats and I’m so pumped to do ministry with them and to live in community with them. I’m anticipating getting to explore the cities and villages and getting to take a dip in the Amazon River. This time tomorrow we’ll be rolling out on a plane headed to Miami (then Lima, then Peru). Hopefully I’ll be blogging again soon! Be praying for our teams travel and that the Lord’s voice would be loud and clear in guiding our steps. Pray for 20 seconds of insane courage!
